FAA Receives CEAR Award for 16th Consecutive Year
Vol.6 Issue 7

For nearly 23 years, the Association of Government Accountants (AGA) has been helping federal agencies improve their Performance and Accountability Reports (PARS) and Agency Financial Reports (AFRs) to obtain a Certificate of Excellence in Accountability Reporting (known as CEAR)® This program was established in collaboration with the Chief Financial Officers Council and the U.S. Office of Management and Budget to improve accountability through streamlined, effective reporting that clearly shows agency accomplishments with taxpayer dollars and the challenges that remain. The CEAR program reviews, with their detailed critiques and recommendations, are proven to be a major factor in the steady improvement of federal government reports.

For the 16th year in a row, the FAA was a recipient of this prestigious CEAR Award. However, this year was even more special because the FAA was a recipient of the CEAR Award with value added distinction. According to a post from the AGA Facebook page, this is "the first time in CEAR history that an agency has been awarded the CEAR with Value-Added Distinction. The Super Bowl or Best Picture Award for government financial reporting!"

The FAA’s Performance and Accountability Report (PAR) is available on the FAA website. As an agency within the U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT), the FAA is not required to prepare a separate PAR or summary report. However, to demonstrate accountability, we choose to present our performance, management, and financial information using the same statutory and guidance framework as that used by the DOT in its reporting to the federal government. In some cases, however, we may depart from the reporting formats prescribed for agencies that are subject to the Chief Financial Officers Act of 1990.
